Arriving at Berlin’s airports to visit Berlin and Brandenburg
Berlin’s airports Schoenefeld and Tegel guarantee the air traffic infrastructure for the capital region of Berlin Brandenburg. From 2012, all air traffic will be handled through the new Capital Airport Berlin Brandenburg International BBI. As a first step, Tempelhof Airport was closed on 30 October 2008. This will be followed by the closure of Tegel Airport and the opening of BBI in 2012.
Berlin’s airports have continuously proofed record growth. In 2008, nearly 21 million passengers flew to or from Berlin. With a growth of 1.4 million passengers compared to the previous year, Berlin’s airports rank first ahead of all German airports.
Nationwide Berlin ranks third in terms of passenger volume – Berlin’s airports grow much faster than average commercial airports in Germany. Never before has Berlin been so well connected to the rest of the world. In 2008, a total of 80 airlines landed at the three Berlin airports. The European route system in particular is tightly knit. Berlin served a total of 160 destinations in 50 countries in 2008 and is the largest low-cost location in Continental Europe.
With non-stop flights from Berlin to New York, Doha, the capital of Qatar, Bangkok and Peking the range of long-haul flights offered is constantly improving.
Berlin is your perfect gateway to Europe. Cooperation with travel operators, airlines, transport companies and tourist organisations continues to drive forward the expansion of flight connections to and from the capital region. Further destinations in the Middle and Far East are to follow.
